    The tip almost never brake because of the fish or highsticking But because you hit the rod with the fly during casting the fly or some failure in the rod building process Hell guys we are talking trout here not salmon

    If I were with Orvis and had watched this, I would never have fulfilled that warranty. Treat your gear and the fish with some respect.

    Sorry, but that was absolutely 100% operator error. I am quite surprised it didn't break before then on this video.... I had one eye squinting waiting for the pop a couple of times.

    The man has absolutely no idea about playing a fish correctly and then complains about breaking his rod. Unbelievable!

  • @roberthogue4338

    Any rod will break when you make it look like a question mark every single time you hoss one back to the net.

  • @richarde1355
    @richarde1355 6 лет назад

    Your rod didn't break, you broke your rod. You were high sticking all of your fish, big time, throughout this entire video. You're the reason why some rod manufacturers provide an extra tip with their travel rods. I don't know what the exact numbers are, but I'm betting probably 90% of fly rod breakage is the tip, from folks high sticking like you do.Watch some videos on how to fight a fish properly. Just sayin'.

      This is why I’m ULTRA skeptical whenever someone talks about breaking multiple rods from “such and such manufacturer”. I’ve only broken two rods in 30 years of fly fishing and both times, it was absolutely my fault. One time I stepped on my 3wt while scrambling to net a fish and the other was when I was a young kid, trying to whip my fly out of a tree. If you’re breaking multiple rods from a reputable, high end manufacturer, you’re doing something wrong…period…

  • @7pinky791
    @7pinky791 7 лет назад

    It isn't the rod. you tackle is not balanced.

  • @thesweetestjerk8905
    @thesweetestjerk8905 7 лет назад

    High sticking is the #1 culprit of broken fly rods.

    • @richarde1355
      @richarde1355 6 лет назад

      Yep, primarily brokent tips, like what he did. That's why some manufacturers offer extra tips on travel rod packages, so the fly fisher has an extra tip (the part that usually breaks) when the fly fisher is on a trip somewhere. Note the break happened right when all the forces were in line with the rod, and the rod coudn't bend. He was pulling on the line to land the fish, the fish is pulling, and the rod tip didn't have a chance. Seen it, done it.

    Ahh yes Bonefishing in the Acklins...with a souca band on your boat overriding the sounds of nature - Makes sense - seems very realistic - if you are a cartoon! Waste of camera memory dudeski. 10 seconds in , I'm out.

    I had a rod snap in the same exact way. It was on a Cabela's rod. I think it's something with the odd angle the pressure is applied to the tip of the rod. They just aren't made to take the force straight down the rod if that makes sense. When mine snapped in the same place and doing the same thing you were doing I was landing a fish and holding the line there was not much pressure on it at all it was a total fluke. I started using a landing net and that really helped so hopefully I can avoid snapping a rod on the first fish of the day again.

    Did Orvis give you a whole new rod or did they repair it? What rod/line weight were you using ? Just curious, cause I just bought Helios 2 fly rod myself in a 9' 6-wt tip-flex.

    • @fishalong
      @fishalong 7 лет назад

      Using a 6 weight rod as well, they just replaced the tip. Cost around 40$ If you call Orvis they are excellent at fixing any issue quickly (in my experience).

    • @Halliday55

      Rods break. I broke a tip section ferrule on a 5wt tip flex H2 and had them build me a ZGHelios 6wt salt water rod as a replacement. They still have the mandrels to build the ZGH. Too bad its so hard to convince Orvis there is merit to a mid flex/full flex rod. They don't want to hear it.

    Heavy Artillery. Think about using a streamer and stripping it down along the river floor. The fish are in the deep pockets when it gets cold out. Good Luck. Thanks for the comment!
